One such bike is the Mongoose Logo 2012 model which has a hi tensile steel frame and forks which help to keep the price down, however it also has a small front sprocket which you would expect to find on more expensive bikes.
This bmx also has a choice of black or gold 20inch wheels with steel hubs and alloy rims.
Mongoose first started out in 1974, so they have a good understanding of what makes a good BMX bike, whether it’s an entry level bike or a top of the range chrome alloy model.

BMX frames can be made from various grades of mild steel,hi tensile steel, stainless steel, chromoloy (4130 chromoloy steel) or aluminium. There are also frames coming on to the market that are made of Titanium.
Chromoloy is an alloy of steel, chromium and molybdenum and has a very good strength to weight factor.
Aluminium BMX frames have a good strength to weight ratio because the tube walling is thicker than that of a comparable steel tube. This usually means an aluminium frame has oversize tubing and makes for a light frame. However, some cheap aluminium bmx frames can be heavier than a good quality more expensive chromoloy one.

However it is probably not a good idea to go for one from a make that you’ve never heard of, but rather a cheap BMX from a reputable manufacturer.
A really cheap BMX could have a badly designed or badly made frame. This could also lead to an uncomfortable ride or make it not so easy for confident tricks.
A well known maker is going to produce a cheap bmx bike up to a certain standard and the major difference is probably going to be what the frame is made of.
